Clem Mikeska's Bar-B-Q receives restaurant award

AUSTIN - The Centex Chapter of the Texas Restaurant Association (TRA) recently named Clem Mikeska's Bar-B-Q Restaurant, the Centex 2003/2004 Outstanding Restauranteur of the Year.

Mikeska was honored at the TRA President's Gala on June 28 during the 2004 Southwest Foodservice Expo in Houston.

Mikeska has been successfully operating his restaurant and catering service since 1965. He and his brothers were featured in Texas Monthly as being the "First Family of Texas Bar-B-Q." Mikeska opened his second restaurant, Clem Mikeska's Grill, in 1998. He has catered events all across the United States and has served several U.S. presidents, dignitaries and celebrities.

A believer in Texas agriculture, Mikeska supports the FFA, FHA and 4-H in Bell County and not only buys the grand champion steer every year at the Bell County Youth Fair, but also awards the winner with a scholarship for college.

The TRA, producers of the Southwest Foodservice Expo, formed in 1937 to serve as the advocate in Texas and the indispensable resource for the foodservice industry. As one of the largest associations in Texas, the association represents the state's $27 billion restaurant industry, which is comprised of more that 40,000 locations and a workforce of more than 650,000 employees.

Along with the TRA Education Foundation, the association represents, educates and promotes the rapidly growing industry.
